Detailed introduction
Product Name: Intranasal Live Attenuated Influenza Vaccine
Product Name: Ganwu®
National Drug Approval Number: S20250046
Ganwu® Intranasal Live Attenuated Influenza Vaccine is China’s first live attenuated influenza vaccine administered via intranasal spray. Compared with conventional inactivated influenza vaccines, Ganwu® Intranasal Live Attenuated Influenza Vaccine offers the following advantages:
Zero pain. The intranasal spray vaccination method eliminates the need for injections, providing a painless and comfortable vaccination experience.
Ganwu® is administered via nasal spray, ensuring a painless vaccination experience that delights children while eliminating common adverse reactions associated with injections, such as redness, swelling, and tenderness. This provides peace of mind for both children and parents.
Triple immunity. Influenza viruses that enter the human body can reside in mucosal surfaces, body fluids, and cells; triple immunity—mucosal immunity, humoral immunity, and cellular immunity—works in concert to prevent influenza virus infection.
Ganwu® is administered via intranasal spray vaccination, a route that mimics natural influenza virus infection and thereby elicits the full spectrum of the body’s immune responses against influenza, encompassing mucosal immunity, humoral immunity, and cellular immunity. Mucosal immunity establishes the body’s first line of defense by inducing IgA antibodies in the nasal mucosa; the resulting IgG antibodies circulate throughout the body via the bloodstream, providing humoral immune protection; and cellular immunity induced by the vaccine can eliminate and clear virus-infected host cells. This triple-layered immune protection offers more comprehensive defense.
3+N prevention. Attenuated live vaccines stimulate the body to generate cross-protection, providing effective protection not only against the three circulating influenza strains but also against a wide range of variant influenza viruses (N), thereby expanding the scope of protection.
The genetic variation of influenza viruses is primarily concentrated in the hemagglutinin and neuraminidase antigens. Following vaccination with a live attenuated influenza vaccine administered via nasal spray, the immune system not only mounts immune responses and establishes immunological memory against the major antigens—hemagglutinin and neuraminidase—but also generates immune responses and memory against conserved antigenic regions that are less prone to mutation. When the human body is infected with a variant influenza strain, the immune system can leverage this immunological memory directed against the conserved antigenic sites to exert protective immunity, thereby preventing infection by the variant virus.
Onset of efficacy within 3 days. Nasal mucosal IgA antibodies begin to develop 3 days after vaccination, enabling a rapid immune response.
The nasal cavity is the primary route of influenza virus infection in humans, and administration of a live attenuated intranasal influenza vaccine can induce nasal mucosal IgA antibodies within three days, establishing the body’s first line of defense against influenza and providing faster protection for children.
In addition, Ganwu® provides longer-lasting protection for vaccine recipients. Following intranasal administration of the live attenuated influenza vaccine, mucosal IgA antibodies are sustainably induced for 12 months, and the cellular immune memory generated after vaccination persists for at least one year. Taken together, intranasal vaccination with the live attenuated influenza vaccine can confer at least 12 months of protective immunity.
Thanks to its unique manufacturing process, which involves no use of inactivating or lysing agents throughout the entire production cycle, the vaccine offers enhanced safety after vaccination. Combined with the aforementioned product advantages, the Ganwu® intranasal live attenuated influenza vaccine is recommended for children aged 3 to 17.
